Runnymede Borough Council in north Surrey is looking for a Marketing and Communications Officer who has enthusiasm and new ideas coupled with experience and a string of successes to impress us with.

We’re looking for someone with the confidence to explain why marketing is important, how it works and who knows the best ways to deliver our messages and increase engagement and revenue.

In practice we’re looking for an experienced colleague who is comfortable conceiving, planning, securing support for and delivering marketing campaigns based on evidence, including demographic data.

You’ll be leading three main strands of our marketing work:

  • Individual projects and services within the Council.
  • Addlestone One and Egham Gateway, two small shopping centres which the Council owns.
  • Our imminent Community Services shared service with another borough council.

In addition to this, you will have day to day responsibility for the Communications needs of two-three business units in the Council.

You should be able to demonstrate knowledge of campaign planning and show how you have supported teams or clients. Using evidence to shape activity, negotiating with senior colleagues and delivering strong outcomes with small budgets are central to our work, so be prepared to show how you have done this.

You’ll have experience of and the chance to work on:

  • Web editing
  • Paid and organic social media
  • Content creation
  • Publications
  • Media relations
  • Advertising

Brand management, corporate style guides, photography, video and internal communication are also on our minds and we will be looking to you to contribute ideas to how we can innovate in these areas too.

We are a local authority, so knowledge of how councils work and the local government landscape would be useful, but first and foremost we need a professional marketer and/or communicator who can spot risks and opportunities, plan and execute projects effectively.

If you understand the importance of communications and marketing to protecting and enhancing the reputation of an organisation and would like to join us and put your skills and experience to work, apply now.

To apply, please upload your CV along with a cover letter (four pages maximum) demonstrating how you meet the requirements set out above and in the Job description and Person specification. If it is difficult for you to apply, please contact HR humanresources@runnymede.gov.uk.

For an informal conversation, please call Peter Le Riche, Communications and Marketing Manager, on 01932 425503.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community. Please provide an email address where possible as you will be contacted by email if you are selected to attend for an interview.

If you have not heard from us within two weeks of the closing date, you should assume that unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Closing date: Sunday 27th September 2020

Interviews dates:  Wednesday 14th or Thursday 15th October 2020
