This post is set within the Admissions and Transport Team, which has responsibility for delivering the mainstream school admissions service; coordinating the normal round admissions process for all schools and managing the in-year admissions service.

As part of the Admissions and Transport Team you will have regular written and verbal communication with parents, schools (including Headteachers), other internal Surrey teams and other local authorities. You will provide advice on individual school and transport applications and will give information and advice on Surrey's admission and transport policies, as well as the current availability of school places.

You will process in-year school applications, home to school transport applications and will be loosely involved in the annual new round process for allocation school places. You will prepare the written cases for school appeals, particularly in the summer term and will prepare cases for discretionary transport consideration.

You will need to work closely with other Admissions and Transport Officers to ensure that weekly tasks are completed and statutory deadlines are met. You will have regard to admissions legislation and Surrey's policies and processes related to school admissions and home to school transport.

You will ideally have experience of working within the service area of school admissions or home to school transport and will have some knowledge of legislation governing admissions, appeals and home to school transport. You will have a proven ability of managing and prioritising a caseload and of working under pressure to meet a deadline.

You will have experience of handling difficult situations and have effective written and verbal communication skills that have been honed to deal with a diverse range of customers and partners. You will also possess thorough IT skills, including Word, Excel and database management systems and will be familiar with the principles of safeguarding and data protection.

About the Team:

This post is set within the Admissions and Transport Team, which has responsibility for delivering the mainstream school admissions service; coordinating the normal round of admissions process for all schools and managing the in-year admissions service. It also assesses mainstream and SEND home to school transport; arranging the placement of challenging and vulnerable children under the Fair Access Protocol, tracking and monitoring applications up to the date children start school and identifying and referring children who might be missing education.

These are complex areas of work which are heavily regulated. The admissions process has statutory application and offer dates which must be met, creating a highly pressurised environment. Relevant statutory guidance issued by the Department for Education includes the School Admissions Code, Home to School Travel and Transport Guidance, the School Admissions Appeals Code and Children Missing Education.
