Are you an experienced chef looking for a role that will make a difference to the lives of others?

Our Chef Managers manage all aspects of catering services in our residential homes for older people through the provision of nutritional, varied and well-presented meals and refreshments to meet the dietary requirements and preferences of our residents. This includes menu planning, ordering, being responsible for maintaining a safe working environment as well as training and managing a team of catering staff.

Based in a 50 - 65 bedded care home kitchen environment, the role holder will take a professional approach when dealing with residents, staff and suppliers to ensure that catering services are delivered in a professional manner and communications are of a high quality.

In this role, you will work in a busy catering environment with a high degree of physical and manual tasks. Due to the nature of the role there may be some exposure to extreme temperatures. You will present a professional image, i.e. wear kitchen whites, protective footwear and observe good hygiene standards.

You will also be responsible for recruiting, training and line managing the catering staff, allocating and monitoring duties as necessary. The catering service is provided 7 days a week, 365 days a year so you will be required to work flexibly to ensure delivery of this service, including weekends and bank holidays.

To be shortlisted for this role your application should clearly evidence:

  • A relevant catering qualification (or extensive experience) as well as a recognised food hygiene award.
  • Experience of running a busy catering service for a large number of people.
  • Knowledge of environmental health requirements.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements of older people.
  • Experience of managing a team.

The role is based in Service Delivery, which is the provider arm of the Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care directorate. Service Delivery provides direct care to individuals living in their own homes and in-house residential establishments across the county. The service is registered with the Quality Care Commission (CQC) and works in accordance with good practice guidance and standards.
