The starting salary for this role is £29,291 per annum for working 36 hours per week.

At Surrey Fire and Rescue Service we are putting prevention at the heart of our Service. We are looking for a talented person who is ready for the challenge of engaging with our community, helping people to keep themselves safe and ensuring that the most vulnerable are supported where we can.

Are you a confident and clear communicator with experience of working in an educational setting?

Do you have the ability to prepare and deliver high quality presentations to different age groups in different settings?

Are you willing and able to communicate with a wide variety of age ranges, delivering safety messages and activities in anything from a 1:1 meeting to a group of young people?

Would you like to use these skills in a fire service setting?

We are looking for an exceptional communicator who is able to help shape our education programmes with the support and guidance of the Education Manager and a team of Education Officers. You will have a strong interest in sharing safety messages with children and young people and helping them to influence other members of the community with their safety knowledge.

You must have experience of working with children and young people and be able to show us how this work has helped create more positive outcomes for them. You should also be able to evidence good written and verbal communication skills.

You will report to the Education Manager and be part of the Education, Children and Young People Team. You will be one of a team of Education Officers who will also help to deliver targeted youth engagement activities, including as a Youth Engagement Scheme (YES) Instructor and as a Firewise Advisor, as well as delivering the education programmes. Firewise uses education to help children and young people stop setting fires through 1:1 sessions. YES is a practical, drill yard based, 5 day course for 13-16 year olds that uses fire-fighting skills to help them engage with education and the community.

We will provide specialist training in the area of working with children that set fires and specific training to become a YES Instructor to ensure you can use both the skills you already have in working with children and young people and develop new skills.

This position will require you to work in a variety of locations including schools, fire stations and private homes across Surrey, with school visits being mostly, but not solely, in the geographical area of Surrey Heath and Woking Boroughs.

On appointment, you will receive a full induction to the organisation and role and have access to regular supervision and continuous professional development (CPD).

To be shortlisted for interview and presentation, you will need to evidence that you meet the qualifications, knowledge and experience criteria as listed in the attached job description.

If you think you could be the person we are looking for, we would love to receive your application.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
