The starting salary for this role is £11.04 per hour plus a 15% annual leave allowance.

We are looking for a number of committed seasonal staff, available from March - November 2022, to join our growing team at Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD).

We currently have vacancies at:

  • Thames Young Mariners (TYM) OEC, Ham, Richmond TW10 7RX
  • High Ashurst, near Dorking, Surrey RH5 6DQ
  • Henley Fort OEC, Guildford GU2 4RH.

In the role of Outdoor Learning Instructor, you will have the opportunity to work substantial hours across the season. The exact number of hours to be worked each week will be mutually agreed in advance with your manager. You will need to be available to work day, evening and weekend sessions. We also require staff who are available for ad hoc sessions throughout the year.

You will be experienced in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences. As well as this, you will have a good understanding of how outdoor learning can benefit all aspects of education and personal development, facilitating positive learning experiences and outcomes.

As a skilled facilitator, you will be able to adapt your style to work with a variety of different groups, from primary school pupils through to youth groups and adults. You will also be responsible for maintaining the high standards we expect at SOLD.

We are looking for applicants who have previous centre experience and hold relevant National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications. However, we will also consider candidates without NGB's who feel they have transferrable skills and experience for the role. A current first aid qualification is essential for this role.

A minimum of one qualification from the list below is required:

Thames Young Mariners

  • BC Paddlesports Instructor (or equivalent qualification)
  • RYA Assistant Instructor or above

High Ashurst and Henley Fort

  • Archery GB Instructor Award
  • A walking qualification such as Sports Leader Lowland Expedition Leader / MT Lowland Leader / MT Mountain Leader
  • MIAS level 2 / British Cycling Mountain Bike Leadership Level 2 Instructor
  • Forest Schools Leader L3 / IOL Bushcraft Competency Certificate
  • SPA / CWA / ERCA Ropes Course instructor
  • British Canoeing Paddlesports Instructor / Paddlesports Leader (Henley Fort only)

We are also looking for applicants who hold a D1 minibus licence / trailer licence.

There are many opportunities for cross centre work and lots of variety in the work offered.
