Waste Services Supervisor
The Operational Services Division of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is looking for a dedicated individual to provide day-to-day supervision of the Council’s refuse and recycling collection operations, ensuring a timely, high quality, safe, friendly and efficient service to our residents.
Epsom & Ewell Borough Council collects almost 120,000 refuse and recycling containers each week. Over half of all collected waste is recycled.
You will supervise a team of around 35 drivers and loaders, operating a fleet of 15 vehicles to collect domestic waste (including garden waste and bulky waste) and business waste. You can learn more about our services at:

You will supervise the recruitment, training and deployment of staff; develop collection routes to maximise efficiency; compile and present statistics; control budgets; resolve collection issues; monitor and enforce quality standards, and support the development and planning of new services.
The role will require you to hold the IOSH Managing Safely qualification (fully-funded training with be provided where not already held), as well as undertaking relevant periodic training. You will also have the opportunity to train for an LGV (Category C) driving licence and a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for national transport management. Again, fully-funded training would be provided where not already held.
The successful person will have a clear vision and drive for success. They will have experience of operations and staff supervision, excellent communication skills and be able to take ownership and solve problems. Health and safety awareness is vital. A full Category B (car) driving licence will be required.
The role is primarily designed around morning shifts (5.30am to 1.30pm, Monday to Friday) but with occasional flexibility where required e.g. starting/finishing later to attend pre-planned meetings and/or allow other members of the supervisory team to gain experience of morning staff set-out. Occasional bank holiday working will be required.
