The starting salary for this role is £44,614 to £47,681 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

The Forensic Social Care team, based at Unither House, Curfew Bell Road, Chertsey, Surrey KT16 9FG within the Adult Social Care directorate at Surrey County Council, is seeking to appoint a permanent Senior Social Worker (SSW).

About the role 

As a Senior Social Worker in the Forensic Social Care team, you will be expected to have strong experience in assessing the social care needs of people in order to provide direct social work intervention to some of our most challenging and complex service users and their carers.

You will provide effective support to individuals with offending behaviour and mental health needs, learning disabilities and / or on the Autism Spectrum Disorder using a strength-based approach to enable individuals to live as independently as possible. You will also undertake the role of Social Supervisor with our Conditionally Discharged client base to ensure public protection.

You will be involved in multiagency working with colleagues from health, criminal justice and other organisations. The role will require you to possess excellent report writing skills in order to complete statutory documents.

As a Senior Social Worker within the Forensic Social Care team, you may be required to provide support and guidance to colleagues from other teams for complex case work. You will need to have the ability work across the county, and at times beyond Surrey. In addition, you will need to be flexible to work in a challenging environment, and will receive peer reflection, supervision and support from a dedicated team.

To be considered for interview your application will need to clearly evidence

  • Experience of managing a complex caseload; undertaking S42 safeguarding enquiries, S9 Care Act assessments and reviews.
  • Experience of working with placement sourcing and supporting hospital discharges.
  • Experience of risk management when working with challenging or offending behaviour.
  • Any experience of working with Conditionally Discharged or restricted clients.
  • Those who are an Approved Mental Health Professional will also be considered and will be able to maintain their AMHP warrant within Surrey County Council if reapproval is successful, but this is not essential to the role.

An Enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.
