About the Role

Surrey’s PSS Post 16 team have been part of the County Council’s provision for children and young people with sensory impairments and physical disabilities for 30 years this year. During this time we have developed the local specialist provision as well as contributing to developments in this field on a national basis. We would like to invite you to apply for this role to take the service forward for the future.

With a strong interest and experience in working with students with Physical and Sensory Impairments in Further and Higher education settings, we are able to offer you the opportunity to join us at a time of transformational change in Surrey. We are working to ensure that provision from the Children and Families, Lifelong Learning, Culture and Communities Directorate delivers services at the cutting edge of national practice. Coming from a strong background in specialist Non-Medical Helper provision in both further and higher education settings, you will be able to apply your skills and knowledge to the future development of the well respected and long standing PSS Post 16 service in Surrey. The expectation is that contributing to and informing practice in this specialist area will be ongoing through representation on national bodies, including consultation with government departments as appropriate.

You will need:

  • Degree level qualifications and substantial experience of working in the FE/HE sector. You will also need a post graduate qualification in PSI related study or BSL interpreting.
  • Proven ability to facilitate the effective deployment of specialist staff in a frequently changing delivery environment as well as ensuring that income generation targets for the service are met.
  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of DfE, SFE, DSA-QAG, DWP and Access to Work requirements.
  • Knowledge of developments within this specialist field, including mandatory qualification required to practice.
